Power Generation Success Story II
Facility: Large Power Generating Company Mid-West, USA
Application Problem: Turbine Energy Station Clean Well Pump Discharge
Solution: DFT® Model Excalibur® Check Valve 8” – 150# WCB/316SS
Success Since: 2004
Challenge: A large power generating company in the mid-west was looking for alternate replacements of the swing check valves in their clear well pump discharge.
To keep the turbines from overheating, the pumps were running a cooling system loop for the turbine that generated energy at their station. Due to water hammer and the high cycling rate, the swing check valves that were installed needed to be replaced every 12 months, requiring constant maintenance.
Solution: The customer installed three of the 8” 150# WCB/316SS Excaliburs. These Excaliburs were installed in 2004, eliminating the water hammer problem. One of the Excaliburs was replaced in 2013, giving this company 9 years of maintenance free service.
